Lions Visit a Roaring Success

The Association were delighted to welcome four members of the Schrobenhausen-Aichach Lions on their visit to Bridgnorth to take part in the celebrations marking the Bridgnorth Lions Club's 50th Charter Anniversary Dinner on Saturday 14th March.

Hartmut Siegl, President of Schrobenhausen Twinning Association, arrived first on Thursday evening after a rather eventful trip... due to a Lufthansa strike his flight was cancelled so he had to take an earlier flight with an 8 hour stop-over in Dusseldorf... finally arriving in Birminham his credit card was blocked leading to problems obtaining his hire car... he finally arrived in Bridgnorth after an over 18 hour journey.

On Friday 13th, despite its unlucky connotations, after a much easier trip he was joined by Dr Eick Vassel (Lions Charter President), Dr Stephan Schultes (Lions President 2025/2026) and Dr Helmut Eikam (a long-standing member of both Twinning and Lions). They were joined by nearly 30 members of both the Twinning Association and the Lions Club for a very enjoyable and sociable curry evening at The Himalaya, Bridgnorth.

Saturday morning Ralph Dunham, a Twinning Association member, took the group on a very informative and interesting Bridgnorth town tour - thank you Ralph! The afternoon was spent taking a trip on the Severn Valley Railway visiting the Engine Room, Highley.

Back to Bridgnorth to get our glad rags on for "the main event": a black tie dinner at The Punchbowl which was much enjoyed by all those in attendance.

David Hampson (Lions President) warmly welcomed our visitors and Stephan made an excellent speech and presented the Lions with a pamphlet which he had translated into English especially for the occasion - it was the ceremonial address on the occasion of their Lions inaugural Charter Night in 1991 - "Friendship: An Intellectual-Historical Exploration".

A traditional, family, full-English breakfast was provided by Fran Spicer before their return flight home.

A superb weekend show-casing the depth of friendship between out two towns. We are very much looking forward to our trip to Schrobenhausen in June, where more than 40 members are planning to go along to the Schrannenfest - some of us to visit old friends and some looking forward to make new ones!
